EDDIE TRENT, MP
DA SPOKESPERSON ON PUBLIC ACCOUNTS

Today’s hearings in the Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA) revealed why the Democratic Alliance (DA) has worked so tirelessly to ensure that investigations into the Arms Deal are not sidelined. A year ago we agreed to a resolution that the outstanding matters of the Joint Investigation Report would be dealt with by SCOPA. We fought to ensure these hearings continued as we believe the truth must come out in this sordid saga, and we are thus delighted that in today’s session we have had an opportunity obtain a great deal of significant information. MANIE VAN DYK MP
DA SPOKESPERSON FOR PUBLIC ENTERPRISES

After years of mismanagement, a once proud national carrier is in a state of decay. Last night, another 15 SAA staff were held by UK authorities after a 5kg stash of cocaine was found in the vanity case of one of the crew members. This is the second incident of this kind within a month and bears testament to the lack of adequate management capacity within the national airline and ACSA. The Democratic Alliance calls for SAA and ACSA to immediately make a full report to parliament on the state of South Africa’s airport security processes. (more…)

President Kgalema Motlanthe stated at Maokeng in the Free State this weekend that the ANC would never make empty promises and “we take our time and never lie”.
